Our Pastor

Pastor David Dyrenforth is excited to serve the Lord alongside God’s people called United Methodists by giving direction to congregations, equipping disciples to live faithfully for Christ and sharing the love of Christ with others.

David felt the call to ministry while growing up among the White Mountains of New Hampshire, but this was not the only thing pulling on him. Throughout his youth, he was active in his local church, Boy Scout troop, and a variety of sports. He also learned to hike, ski, and camp at a very young age. As both an avid athlete and an outdoor enthusiast, David’s skills drew him toward a career in the military.

Following his graduation from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, NY. David served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army for five years. Following his last active duty assignment in Alaska, he entered seminary in Boston to pursue God’s calling.

Before graduating from Boston University School of Theology, David was active as a Bible study leader, youth minister, and lay preacher.  Since graduating, he has pastored various United Methodist churches throughout New England by offering his gifts of leadership, discernment and reconciliation.  David gives thanks to God for how all things work together for those who love the Lord and are called according to his will.   Christ has been the faithful rock in challenging situations in which Pastor David discovered strengths related to congregational polarity, conflict management, visioning, lay empowerment, and financial stewardship. Teaching, worship leading and organizing a congregation around a gospel vision are some additional strengths.

Immediately before arriving in Fairbanks, David and his family lived in Patten, Maine, where he serves as pastor of the Stetson Memorial UMC and offers oversight for the surrounding United Methodist Churches. This spiritually vibrant, Christ-centered church is involved in bringing the gospel hope to many aspects of the rural community that surrounds its building.

Pastor David and his family returned to Alaska in the summer of 2013 as the pastor of the Fairbanks First United Methodist Church.  He is excited to discover all the blessings that God has prepared for this church and those to whom it ministers.

David and Judy married in June 2002. They have a seven year old son named Samuel and a five year old daughter named Susannah.
